Tutor's Introduction
Favourite this tutor

My name is Giulia Costanzi, I am a KS2 teacher in a primary school in central London. I have achieved QTS and my PGCE last year as part of the Teach First Programme and I am now completing my PGDE with Teach First and UCL, during my NQT year.

As I take some time out of in-class teaching to write my MA dissertation, I have decided to devote my time to tutoring.

I am really passionate about teaching. I have profoundly benefitted from the relationships I have developed with the pupils in these past two years and enriched by the opportunity of working and studying at the same time. In fact, this meant that I was able to implement the newest educational research in my teaching practice.

In the past two years, I have nurtured my philosophy of teaching through research and practice and I have developed a strong student-centred approach. In my class, I have adopted an inquiry-based approach to teaching where pupils develop their curiosity and understanding of a subject by learning how to ask relevant questions and become independent learners.

I am also very interested in cognition and learning, focusing my planning on how to avoid pupils' cognitive overload by breaking down knowledge into manageable chunks (I do, we, do you do and other models).

Within the primary, KS2, subjects I have specialised in teaching history (also my undergraduate degree) and English - with a specific focus on reading. I have also worked closely with the Mathematics Mastery programme, using it to challenge and inspire pupils as well as adapting it to meet the different needs of my pupils.

I strongly believe in the importance of research-based practice in education. For this reason, I have taken various opportunities to implement my research in my practice and extend the impact to the whole school. For instance, I have recently researched, designed, trialed, and coached TAs on a reading intervention on fluency.

Finally, during this period of home learning, I have developed key knowledge and confidence to teach online, using different tools (especially pre-recorded videos) and online platforms to deliver high quality lessons.
